Isaac vs. Zombies

I usually don’t like bragging about my son but Isaac beat a level of Plants vs. Zombies on his own.  He is my son.

This is my new favorite picture of Isaac.  He looks like he belongs on a dilapidated porch alongside 5 other children during the dust bowl era.

Mariah is better than Paul McCartney

My proclamation below saying that seeing Paul McCartney was the best 2 1/2 hours of my life requires some clarification.  In actuality, the 2 1/2 hours watching McCartney perform were only the second best 2 1/2 hours of my life behind any 2 1/2 hours spent with Mariah (and Isaac!).

So to put it another way…

1. Mariah

1a. Isaac

2. Paul McCartney

3. Other people

Random thoughts on birth

First things first… for our friends near and far who are looking for some pictures, we are posting stuff to my Flickr page (which Mariah has pretty much taken over).  You can get to my photostream by clicking in the right column of my blog or you can go straight to a slideshow of Isaac’s first few days here.

Check back as we add more photos.

Now my thoughts…

1. The birthing process is both the most natural and the most supernatural event I have ever witnessed.  Every single person who has ever walked the face of this earth came in the exact same way (except for the first two) and it happens thousands of times a day, and yet it is the most otherworldy, miraculous thing I have ever participated in.

2. My wife has the strength of 10 men.

3. Babies change every time you look at them.  They are so small but you could stare at them for hours and never run out of new things to notice.

4. I am amazed at both how much and how little we come into the world with.  Isaac is utterly dependent on us and yet he knew how to breastfeed and express himself through crying straight out of the chute.  He is also familiar with our voices after spending months hearing them in the womb.  He also dreams (which blows my mind).

5. Parenting seems like too big of a challenge and calling to be based mostly on trial and error, and yet you are faced with the overwhelming sense that this whole job boils down to intuition, care and grace.
