The Abolition of Man

I have read several of C.S. Lewis’ books through the years but for some reason never got around to reading The Abolition of Man until recently.  It is a fantastic little book (less than a 100 pages), and is prophetic in many ways as it tackles the subjects of subjectivism, ethics, and the myth of scientific progress.  I highly recommend the book if you are looking for a challenge.  It roused me from this liberal malaise I have been mired in the last several years.  Nothing against liberals (I would still consider myself liberal) but there is a liberalism that is so lazy that it only defines itself as “not conservative” and it is this “anti-” for the sake of “anti-” that Lewis will not allow.

I will tease you with a quote on the subject of power through scientific progress-

“There neither is nor can be any simple increase of power on Man’s side. Each new power won by man is a power over man as well. Each advance leaves him weaker as well as stronger. In every victory, besides being the general who triumphs, he is also the prisoner who follows the triumphal car.”
